Big 12 Baseball Power Poll: Late March Edition

Big 12 Baseball Power Poll: Late March Edition
Power poll 3/22/17
Six teams started Big 12 play, and one surprise in the first week of action. Week 2 we will see the rest of the conference get started. The highlight series for week two is Oklahoma St heading to Ft. Worth to face TCU, while Oklahoma at Baylor is a close second.
1: Texas Tech (19-4, 3-0) RPI 6 SOS 39. The Red Raiders have been knocking on the door for the number one slot in the weekly power poll, and this week it’s there time. Last week Tech traveled to #21 Texas, and swept the Horns for the first time in program history. This week they step out of Big 12 play, and travel to Wichita St.

2: TCU (14-5, 2-1) RPI 26 SOS 43. The Frogs started the season red hot before making a west coast road trip that saw them drop 3 out of 5 games. TCU bounced back last week 2-1 to open the conference vs Kansas. The star for the Frogs last week was Friday starter Jared Janczak who threw 8 no hit IP vs Kansas earning him Big 12 pitcher of the week. This week the test is stronger hosting Oklahoma St.

3: Baylor (17-4, 1-2) RPI 2 SOS 18.  Baylor has had several tests all season Long and week one was no different as the hosted West Virginia who took 2 of 3 from the Bears. The Bears have already bounced back this week beating DBU, and will host Oklahoma this weekend.

4: Oklahoma St (15-6, 0-0) RPI 43 SOS 93. OSU had a slow start to the season but have turned that around with several quality wins to earn there preseason ranking. The Cowboys have already knocked of Bedlam rival midweek and look to continue the hit streak vs TCU

5: West Virginia (10-8, 2-1) RPI 8 SOS 8. WVU has been the hardest team to get a read on this season 6-2 then a bad week in Louisiana made you quest how good they were. One week later the Mountaineers hit the road to Waco and beat the #10 Bear 2-1 in the series. WVU finally gets to play in Morgantown as they host Jacksonville

6: Oklahoma (21-4, 0-0) RPI 54 SOS 259. The Sooners have the most wins of anyone in the Big 12 with 21, but 18 coming against teams with a RPI over 100. This is the biggest test for the Sooners so far after dropping the midweek game at kudu they hit the road for another nationally ranked opponent in Baylor

7: Texas (14-10, 0-3) RPI 84 SOS 40. The Longhorns are another team in the Big 12 that has been hard to figure out in ’17. Texas strength of schedule is one of the better ones, and they have some quality to wins, but getting swept at home last week leads you to wonder how good are this season

8: KSU (15-6, 0-0) RPI 103 SOS 183. The Wildcats had one more out of conference series last week vs Iowa and to 2 of the 3. This week they jump right into Big 12 at Texas this series could start to separate on of these from the bottom two slots.

9: Kansas (9-11, 1-2) RPI 179 SOS 142 I am not sure what to say about the Jayhawks. This team didn’t have much in the way of expectations coming into the season, and the way it’s going nothing has changed.
