OKLAHOMA CITY — Billy Donovan announced that Andre Roberson will not be playing in tomorrow’s preseason game against the Dallas Mavericks.
This news comes a day after Roberson was held out of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s annual Blue/White scrimmage yesterday. However, Donovan mentioned that Roberson practiced today and “did a lot.”
“I felt like he had four really good days (last week),” Donovan said. “There was probably some soreness from him. Instead of setting him back by playing (in the scrimmage yesterday) we gave him the rest.”
Donovan said that last week was the “most contact” he has gone through since returning to what Roberson and the team have described as, “full go.”
When asked if he anticipates this being a theme for Roberson moving forward, Donovan did not want to use absolutes but acknowledged that Roberson still has some challenges ahead.
“I think for Andre there is going to be some ups and downs of getting accustomed to continually handling more and more load,” Donovan said. “I was actually encouraged that he practiced all four straight days and he came right back today after not playing in the scrimmage.”
“Is it something that is going to happen the entire year? It would be hard for me to say, I can’t answer that.”
